Generating QR Codes!

Useful ideas for QR Codes

Generating QR Codes are becoming more popular with the increase of mobile phone customers using smartphones. There is no reason why small and local business shouldn't jump on the band wagon. Even entrepreneurs should get in on the QR Code action.

So what are QR Codes? Well QR stands for "Quick Response" and when scanned with a smartphone that is what the user gets. Now, there is all types of information that can be stored on QR Codes that makes communicating with customers or clients a snap.

Generate your own QR Codes

There are tons of great uses for generating QR Codes, my favorite is using them on the back of my business cards so that potential clients can quickly add my info into their contact. This saves them from the hassle of programming all my information into their phone, and once I'm in their contact list, it's more likely that they will contact me.

Another great use is generating QR Codes for social media. More and more business are creating social media QR Codes to place on their print advertising. This make it tremendously easy for users with smart phones to join in on your social media account. Customers appreciate a business that is in touch with technology and use it for the convenience of their customers.

Great Ideas for Generating QR Codes

Here are some more ideas but the list could go on and on. Only your imagination is the limit.

  • Restaurants put them on your menu
  • Real Estate agents put them on flyers or on the for sale sign, containing the all the info of the home.
  • Local business can put them on the entrance, containing all the contact info for your store or business
  • Put them on t-shirts, people love free t-shirts.
  • Place them in your print advertising, so consumers interested in your product or service, can save the details
I could list ideas all day, but did you know that there are also some places and times not to use QR Codes?

When to not use QR Codes

Yes, as awesome as they are, there are times when it is inappropriate to use QR Codes. One of the worst things you could do is send the user to a site that is not mobile friendly. Not only are they not going to look at the content, it will probably irritate the person. If your business does not have a mobile website consider getting one done. If a mobile website is not in the budget for the moment then consider sending the person to site that is mobile friendly. For example your facebook page or twitter profile.

Another thing to look out for is placing them in places where people driving a car have to scan them. I can't tell you how many time I have seen mobile marketing efforts on billboard, and think to myself how someone dropped the ball on that one. Not only are the majority of people probably driving to fast to be able to scan it, it is also very dangerous.
